We are currently unable to log in to RefWorks - we have contacted RefWorks support for assistance and hope to have it resolved soon.

RefWorks have notified us that they are having problems this afternoon. They are working on fixing the issues as soon as possible so if this is affecting you, please try again later.

RefWorks downtime 15 October 2022

RefWorks have planned maintenance from 19:00 to midnight on Saturday 15th October. 

During this window RefWorks will be unavailable. RefWorks Citation Manager and the RefWorks GoogleDocs plug-in will not be available. Write-n-Cite will be available offline, but users will not be able to sync their references with RefWorks.
All existing references will be maintained and available at the end of the maintenance window.

RefWorks downtime Saturday 12th December

 We've been warned of downtime for RefWorks on Saturday 12th December, 4am - 6am GMT. 

This will affect both RefWorks and Writing tool add-ons for both (new) RefWorks and legacy RefWorks users (Write-n-Cite, RefWorks Citation Manager, RCM – Hangul, RefWorks for Google Docs)

RefWorks downtime 10th May 2020 - 3am to 3pm

We have been warned of planned RefWorks downtime on 10th May 2020, starting at 3am UK time and going on for up to 12 hours.

This will affect both versions of RefWorks, Write-n-cite and RefWorks Citation Manager.

RefWorks downtime 21 March 2020

RefWorks have announced a period of downtime on Saturday March 21 9am - 1 pm while they upgrade the database.

The main version of RefWorks (new RefWorks) will be unavailable during this period. RefWorks Citation Manager and Write-n-Cite will also be unavailable.

RefWorks downtime Sunday 9th February 3am-3pm

RefWorks have announced a period of downtime on Sunday 9th February 3am-3pm while they migrate data to a new server.

Both versions of RefWorks (new RefWorks and Legacy RefWorks) will be unavailable during this period. RefWorks Citation Manager and Write-n-Cite will also be unavailable.

RefWorks planned downtime Saturday 18th January 2pm-2.30pm

RefWorks are planning maintenance on Saturday 18th January, from 2pm to 2.30 (14:00-14:30). RefWorks may be unavailable during this time.

RefWorks downtime 20th December 6am - 4pm GMT

RefWorks are moving to a new server on 20th of December and are warning of up to 10 hours of downtime for both RefWorks and Legacy RefWorks. RefWorks Citation Manager and Write-n-Cite will also be unavailable during this time.

RefWorks downtime Sunday 24th March 11am-4pm

We've been warned of scheduled downtime for both versions of RefWorks between 11am and 4pm on Sunday 24th March.

During this window legacy RefWorks and new RefWorks will be unavailable. RefWorks Citation Manager and the RefWorks GoogleDocs plug-in will not be available. Write-n-Cite will be available offline, but users will not be able to sync their references with RefWorks.

All existing references will be maintained and available at the end of the maintenance window.

New RefWorks downtime Friday 22nd February 11pm-3am

We are expecting scheduled maintenance to New RefWorks from 11pm on Friday 22nd February to 3am on Saturday 23rd.

During this window New RefWorks will be offline. Write-n-Cite will be available offline, but you will not be able to sync your references with RefWorks.

All existing references will be maintained and available at the end of the maintenance window.

RefWorks downtime Sunday 20th January 3pm - 11pm

We have been notified that on Sunday, January 20 at 3:00 UTC there will be scheduled maintenance on RefWorks for approximately 8 hours to perform preventative maintenance on infrastructure. During this window both new RefWorks and legacy RefWorks will be offline and unavailable to users. Write-n-Cite will be available offline, but users will not be able to sync their references with RefWorks.

All existing references will be maintained and available at the end of the maintenance window.

RefWorks downtime Sunday, December 9 at 12:30 GMT

We've been notified of downtime to RefWorks on Sunday, December 9 at 12:30 GMT lasting approximately 2.5 hours.

During this maintenance window new RefWorks accounts will be inaccessible. References will not be available in RefWorks Citation Manager or the RefWorks Google Docs plug-in. Write-N-Cite will be available but cannot be synced during this outage period. Following the outage window there will be a period of time during which searching will not work as references are being re-indexed.

At the end of the maintenance your references and citations will be maintained and available to you.

RefWorks scheduled maintenance Saturday 22nd September 2pm - 2am

We've been warned of scheduled maintenance for RefWorks  starting at 2pm on Saturday 22nd September and continuing until 2am on Sunday 23rd. Both versions of Refworks, New and Legacy, will be affected, but in different ways.


New RefWorks: 


During this window new RefWorks will be online but certain functionality may not be available.


All existing references and any new references created or imported during this maintenance window will be maintained. 

Legacy RefWorks


During this maintenance window the legacy RefWorks accounts will be inaccessible and the RefWorks writing tools - RefWorks Citation Manager, the RefWorks Google Docs plug-in and Write-N-Cite will be unable to load references or citation styles.

At the end of the maintenance your references and citations will be maintained and once again available to you.

RefWorks downtime 3am - 11am Sunday 19th August

We've been warned of planned downtime for Old RefWorks, 3am - 11am Sunday 19th August. New RefWorks, RefWorks Citation Manager, the RefWorks Google Docs plug-in, and Write-n-Cite may also not work properly during this time.

RefWorks down time 14 July 3am-7am, 11pm-4am

RefWorks is going to be having two periods of downtime this weekend 3am-7am on Saturday 14 and 11pm-4am on Saturday 14 - Sunday 15th July.

This will affect both old RefWorks and new RefWorks.

During this maintenance window both old and new RefWorks accounts will be inaccessible as will RefWorks Citation Manager, and the RefWorks Google Docs plug-in. Write-N-Cite users may notice a degradation in service so we recommend not using Write-N-Cite during this time.
At the conclusion of the maintenance all of your references and citations will be maintained and available to you.
