RefWorks login problem

We are currently having an issue where RefWorks asks you to input your email address, sends you a confirmation email, but you are then unable to get past this page

We do not yet know how many users this is affecting - we would love to hear from you if it has happened to you or if you are able to access RefWorks as usual - contact us at library.technical@beds.ac.uk. We are trying to get this fixed as soon as possible.

RefWorks trying to take you to the Legacy (old) version

We're getting reports of people trying to log in to the new version of RefWorks and getting redirected to the old version. We have reported this to RefWorks who say that the solution is to clear your cookies and cache, or switch to a fresh browser. You may get a link to the new version, as in the screenshot below, or you may not. If you try a fresh browser session and still have problems, please let us know.

Old Refworks problem

We're having issues logging into the older version of RefWorks this morning. Our provider is aware and we hope the problem will be fixed soon. Clearing cookies may help, but it hasn't solved the problem for us.

RefWorks login problem - blank accounts

There seems to be a widespread problem today (7th January) with users logging into RefWorks and finding their references have disappeared - this has been reported by a number of universities this afternoon and we've had a couple reported too.

If you already have a RefWorks account, and you are prompted to create a new one - don't do it. Report the problem to us and try RefWorks again later.

If your account has been affected please email us with your name and student ID number and we'll investigate with RefWorks.

RefWorks login is really confusing

RefWorks has designed their login page in a way which is really confusing for University of Bedfordshire students. You need to ignore the very obvious "Login using RefWorks Credentials" box. If try to put your details in here, you will get an error message, "Error Invalid Group Code/id, Login Name or Password combination." Instead scroll down to the "Login using Other Credentials" section, and select "My Institution's Credentials (Shibboleth)". Scroll through the list until you get to University of Bedfordshire - this link will take you to a University of Bedfordshire login page. Login here and you should get straight through to your RefWorks account.

There is a simpler way in here - this link takes you straight to our login page without having to navigate the main RefWorks page.

RefWorks login issues

If you have already been through the process of linking your RefWorks account to your University username and password (described here), you will no longer be able to user your previous username and password to access RefWorks.  If you are trying to access RefWorks and you end up at this page
RefWorks login screen
you will need to click the link "My Institution's Credentials (Shibboleth)".  If you try to enter your university username and password in the "Login using RefWorks Credentials" box you will get a message "Invalid Group Code/id, Login Name or Password combination." The best way to login is to always use the link from the library catalogue. This will automatically take you to the right login screen.

If you have RefWorks bookmarked on your computer, change the link to https://www.refworks.com/RWShibboleth?providerid=https%3A//idp.beds.ac.uk/entity - this will take you to the right login screen.

If you haven't yet gone through the process of linking your RefWorks account to your University login, please do! It will mean you have one less password to remember, and that you can access RefWorks wherever you are without needing to use the group code.

Changes to RefWorks usernames

If you are a RefWorks user you will have had or will be getting an email from RefWorks telling you that your username has changed and is now the email address you used to register for RefWorks.  Try logging in with this new username and your existing password and let us know if you have any problems.

Dear RefWorks User,
We have changed your RefWorks login name to match the email address on your account.
Your new login name is: ********@beds.ac.uk
Why did we make this change?
We’re changing the login process to eliminate the need for users to supply a Group Code – an enhancement that many users have requested. This means that have user must have a unique login name, such as their email address.
Visit the Update Profile page within RefWorks if you would like to create a different login name.
What was my old login name?
Your old login name was: *******. You won’t need that login name anymore; however, if you have more than one RefWorks account your other login name(s) may not have changed.
What if I still have questions?
As always, our professional support team is ready to help. You can find more information at http://www.refworks-cos.com/support/

Sincerely,
RefWorks-COS Support Services
